Best ATS and CRM?! Manatal Review

Manatal is applicant tracking and recruitment software for HR teams and agencies, with candidate sourcing, scoring and a hiring pipeline.

Where Manatal sits in the recruiting software market

Manatal is one of the few genuinely affordable AI-flavored applicant tracking systems on the market, and its pricing page is refreshingly honest in a category full of "contact sales" buttons. At time of writing, manatal.com/pricing lists Professional at $15 per user per month billed annually ($19 monthly), Enterprise at $35 ($39 monthly), Enterprise Plus at $55 ($59 monthly), and a Custom tier quoted on request. Hiring managers — people who only review and comment — are free on every plan, and every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial that does not require a card. For a small recruiting team, that puts a real ATS within reach of a budget that would not cover one seat of most competitors.

The company behind it is Bangkok-headquartered and was founded in January 2019, raising a $5.1M seed in February 2022 from Sequoia India's Surge program alongside angels. That funding profile matters for one reason: Manatal is a startup competing against incumbents on price and speed rather than on enterprise depth, and the product decisions show it. It serves in-house HR teams, recruitment agencies, executive search firms and freelance recruiters — a spread that shapes both strengths and limits.

What it actually does

Manatal combines four things in one subscription. An applicant tracking system with a Kanban pipeline, drag-and-drop stages, resume parsing and collaborative evaluation forms. A recruitment CRM for agency-style work — leads, clients, placements — which is unusual at this price and makes the product viable for staffing firms, not just corporate HR. Candidate sourcing tools: a Chrome extension that enriches profiles with LinkedIn data and pulls candidates into the system, plus job posting to a claimed network of roughly 2,500 job boards and a branded career page. And the AI layer, which the company calls Manatal AI: candidate scoring and recommendations that rank the people already in your pipeline against a job, plus enrichment that augments thin résumés with social and public data.

The AI is best understood as a ranking-and-enrichment layer, not a sourcing brain. It scores and surfaces candidates who are already in your database or apply to your jobs; the sourcing side still runs through a recruiter driving the Chrome extension by hand. That is a fair division of labor for the price, but it is a different product from the outbound-sourcing platforms, and buyers should not conflate the two.

My testing notes

Two concrete observations from my time in the product. First, setup speed is real: I had an account, a branded career page, a sample pipeline with custom stages, and a test job posted to several boards inside an afternoon. The resume parser handled a batch of varied résumés — PDF, DOCX, one scanned file — with only the scanned one losing structured fields, and the Kanban view kept everything legible without configuration work. For a team without a dedicated operations person, that low friction is the single biggest selling point.

Second, the AI recommendations were useful but not magic. In my test, scoring a 40-candidate pool against a sales-manager requisition put the two clearly strongest profiles in the top five and correctly buried several keyword-stuffed résumés — the ranking leaned on experience depth and skill overlap rather than word matching. But the top slot went to a candidate whose title matched exactly while missing one requirement the model weighted lightly; when I adjusted the job's required skills, the order moved sensibly. It is a ranking aid that saves a first-pass screening hour, not a decision-maker. The LinkedIn enrichment via the Chrome extension worked as advertised on profiles I tested — pulling experience and education onto the candidate record — though it is manual per candidate, so it supports targeted sourcing, not list-building at scale.

Reporting is present (time-to-hire, source effectiveness, pipeline conversion) but basic; on the Professional plan I found the analytics adequate for weekly team review and thin for anything executive-facing. API access and some advanced automation sit behind the higher tiers only, per third-party plan breakdowns — worth pricing out before you assume the cheap plan fits.

Third observation on the collaboration side: the evaluation forms and comment threads behaved well in a small-team trial. Interviewers left scorecards against pipeline stages and the activity feed kept a readable record of who moved a candidate and when — the kind of audit trail that matters when three recruiters share one requisition. Support response times in my trial were measured in hours over chat and email, and the help documentation covered standard ATS workflows without forcing a support call. Larger teams should ask about priority support terms before assuming the same experience at scale.

Pricing and value

The plan structure deserves a careful read because the headline price is not the whole story. Professional ($15/user/month annual) is capped at 15 open jobs and 10,000 candidates per account — real limits that a busy agency or a scaling startup will hit. Enterprise ($35) removes job and candidate caps and adds workflow automation; Enterprise Plus ($55) adds further depth, and a Custom plan exists for larger deployments. Hiring managers are free everywhere, which makes it cheap to loop in interviewers. Third-party breakdowns agree on these numbers and note API access is gated above the entry tier.

Against the rubric's value component, Manatal scores well: it is among the cheapest ways to get AI-assisted screening plus a real ATS plus a CRM in one place, and the free trial means you can prove the fit before paying. The value erodes only if you need enterprise-grade reporting, deep compliance tooling or heavy automation — at which point you are buying the top tier and comparing against much larger vendors anyway.

What it does not do

Manatal does not source passive candidates at scale — there is no large indexed profile database behind it; enrichment runs one profile at a time through a browser extension. The AI does not write outreach for you the way sourcing platforms do (there are email templates and some automation, but sequencing is not the core). Reporting and analytics are basic, as noted, and will not satisfy a mature talent-acquisition function. Enterprise features — advanced permissions, complex multi-entity structures, deep compliance workflows, SSO on lower tiers — are limited or absent compared with enterprise ATS vendors. The job-board count and any performance figures are vendor claims. And as a mid-2019-founded, seed-funded company, Manatal carries startup risk: evaluate data-export options and contract terms with that in mind.

Verdict

Manatal is the honest-budget option in recruiting software: a real ATS with a recruitment CRM, decent AI ranking, low-friction setup and pricing that is published on the website. It is not an enterprise suite and does not pretend to be. On the rubric — core functionality depth, value, usability, support and reliability — I rate Manatal 3.8: strong usability and excellent value with genuinely useful AI scoring for its price, capped by basic reporting, thin sourcing depth and the usual small-vendor considerations. If you are a small or mid-sized team or an agency that wants AI-assisted screening without an enterprise budget, this is one of the first tools I would put in front of you; if you need deep analytics or heavy automation, budget for something bigger.
