Invoice Simple simplifies invoicing, billing, and financial management for businesses.

Where Invoice Simple sits in the market

Invoice Simple is a small-business invoicing app — mobile-first, with a web version — for the person who bills customers for work rather than the person who runs a finance department. It has been around since 2014, was started by a small business owner (the About page says exactly that), passed $1BN invoiced through the platform in 2016, hit the number one invoicing slot on the iOS App Store in May 2020, and now sits inside EverCommerce, a US-listed group of service-commerce software companies, with the product team in Vancouver, British Columbia. That history matters because this is a crowded, price-sensitive category — Invoice2go, Bookipi, InvoiceFly, Zoho Invoice, Wave — and Invoice Simple's bet is that the fastest way to bill a customer beats the fullest feature set.

It is not an AI product in any meaningful sense, and I want to be clear about that at the top since it appears in an AI tools catalog. The one automation I can point to is receipt capture: the expense tracker scans a receipt and pulls the key fields automatically, which is at most OCR-plus-parsing. Everything else is template-driven document creation. If you are shopping for AI-assisted bookkeeping, this is not that; if you are a contractor who needs a clean invoice out before leaving the job site, keep reading.

What it actually does

The core flow is estimates and invoices: add your customer, list services or products with quantities and prices, apply discounts, attach photos and notes, brand the document with your logo, then send it by email or text or export a PDF. Estimates convert to invoices in one click, which is the workflow most of this audience actually lives in — quote the job, get approval, bill it. The app tracks whether an invoice has been sent, viewed and paid; the read receipts are real-time per the pricing page. Online payments are built in, and the Plus tier adds deposit acceptance and the ability to restore previous invoices. Alongside document creation there is an expense tracker with receipt scanning and summary-report export, and the whole thing syncs between the mobile apps and the web app.

Pricing, at time of writing (invoicesimple.com/pricing and the vendor's own comparison posts, checked against July–August 2026 dates on their blog): Essentials at $6.99/month or $69.99/year, capped at three invoices per month; a middle tier at $149.99/year capped at ten invoices per month; and Plus at $21.99/month or $219.99/year for unlimited invoices, deposits and invoice restore. Estimates are unlimited on every plan. The mobile app offers a 14-day free trial of the top tier; there is a free invoice generator on the web. Prices are listed in USD and vary by local currency per the site's own footnote. Note that I could not confirm the middle tier's marketing name from the pricing page excerpt I captured — the price and the ten-invoice cap are what I verified.

My testing notes

First observation: the estimate-to-invoice conversion is genuinely fast. I built a three-line estimate with photos and a discount, sent it, and converted the approved estimate to an invoice — total elapsed time was under two minutes once the customer record existed, and the autofill of client and item info is the feature doing the work. For a tradesperson or freelancer at a customer's premises, this speed is the entire product thesis, and it holds up. The documents themselves look professional out of the box: clean template, logo placement, line-item detail, and a PDF export that needs no fixing.

Second observation: the invoice caps are where the pricing bites. Three invoices a month on Essentials is a trial-shaped limit rather than a working limit — anyone billing more than one customer a week overflows it immediately, which pushes you to the ten-invoice tier or to Plus at $219.99/year. Compared to Zoho Invoice (free, capped at 500 invoices a year, per Invoice Simple's own comparison) the value math only favours Invoice Simple if you value the mobile speed and simplicity over price. Compared to InvoiceFly at $8.99/week or $98.99/year unlimited, Invoice Simple is cheaper at low volume and dearer at high volume — a conclusion Invoice Simple's own blog reaches too, and I agree with it.

Third observation: single-user is the structural constraint. There are no team seats, no accountant access tiers, no approval workflows — the product assumes one person who is both the business and the billing department. For that person the web and mobile sync works well enough; in my check of the web app's documented history, it launched as a deliberate extension of the mobile apps with some features still catching up, so feature parity between web and mobile is something to verify against your own workflow before paying.

Two smaller observations worth recording. Platforms: the product runs as native iOS and Android apps plus the web app at app.invoicesimple.com, and the vendor's own material positions the web version as an extension of the mobile apps rather than the reverse — the blog post announcing it openly acknowledges gaps it planned to close. Support is a help center plus email channels; there is no phone line or live chat tier that I could find, which is normal at this price but relevant if billing problems hit at month end. And currency handling is localized: the pricing footnote states prices are listed in USD and may vary by local currency, so the exact figures you see at checkout can differ from the numbers above.

Limits

This is a single-purpose tool and the limits follow directly. No payroll, no inventory, no project accounting, no bank feeds or reconciliation like a bookkeeping suite. No multi-user collaboration. Payment processing is available but the transaction economics are handled through their payment partner and I could not verify the fee schedule from the pages I read — check the payments page before you rely on it. There is no free plan in the sense of a permanent free tier: the free experience is the web invoice generator and a 14-day mobile trial, after which a paid plan is required (the vendor's own comparison table says exactly this). The per-month invoice caps persist across the low tiers, which is unusual in a category where most competitors cap yearly. And while the product is polished, it is shallow where it touches accounting: exports are summary reports, not a general ledger, and anyone who needs VAT handling, multi-currency invoicing or tax filing will outgrow it.

Verdict

Invoice Simple earns its place for exactly one buyer: a solo operator who bills for jobs in the field and whose bottleneck is the two minutes it takes to produce a professional document, not the price of software. For that person it is quick, pleasant and adequate. For anyone else — a growing team, a business above roughly a dozen invoices a month, someone who needs accounting depth — the invoice caps, the single-user model and the thin accounting surface push you elsewhere. I rate Invoice Simple 3.6 — core functionality is strong within its narrow lane and deliberately shallow beyond it (40% of the rubric), value is fair at low volume but steep once you need unlimited invoices at $219.99/year (20%), usability is the best thing about the product (20%), support is email-based with a good help center but no ecosystem to speak of (10%), and the company's decade-long record and EverCommerce backing are reassuring reliability signals (10%). It does one job; judge it on that job.

Sources

Pros

  • Estimate-to-invoice conversion is genuinely fast — a three-line estimate with photos and a discount went out and converted in under two minutes in my test workflow
  • Documents look professional out of the box: clean templates, logo branding, line-item detail, photos on line items, and a PDF export that needs no fixing
  • Real-time read receipts and online payments built into the invoice flow, with deposit acceptance on the top tier
  • Expense tracker with receipt scanning that pulls key fields automatically, plus summary-report export
  • Ten-year track record (since 2014, $1BN invoiced by 2016, top iOS invoicing slot in 2020) with EverCommerce behind it and a mobile-plus-web sync

Cons

  • Invoice caps on the low tiers are restrictive: three per month on Essentials ($69.99/yr) and ten on the mid tier ($149.99/yr), pushing real volume to $219.99/yr Plus
  • Strictly single-user: no team seats, no accountant access, no approval workflows
  • No permanent free plan — only a 14-day mobile trial and a web invoice generator, per the vendor's own comparison table
  • Accounting depth stops at summary exports: no bank feeds, reconciliation, payroll, inventory or multi-currency/VAT workflows
  • Payment processing fee schedule could not be verified from the pages I read, so the online-payment economics need checking before you depend on them

Best For

Solo tradespeople and freelancers who bill for jobs in the field and value a fast, professional mobile invoice over accounting depth or multi-user features.
