Wix Logo Maker: Best AI Logo Tool for Full Control?
AI-driven logo maker that helps users create professional custom logos effortlessly through intelligent design suggestions and customization tools.
Where Wix Logo Maker sits — including the awkward part
Wix Logo Maker is the logo generator inside the Wix ecosystem: answer a short questionnaire about your business and style, get a batch of logo candidates, customize one in a template editor, and pay once to download usable files. For years it was the default recommendation for a small business that wanted a decent mark without hiring a designer. But the first thing you need to know in 2026 is what Wix itself now says in its help center: new logo projects are being steered to Wixel, Wix's newer AI design platform, and the classic Logo Maker is described in Wix's own words as having "limited AI support and fewer assets" compared to the newcomer. The classic tool still works and still sells plans, but it is now the legacy path. Logos you made before do not move to Wixel; they live in Brand Studio.
That repositioning matters for how you read this review. As a standalone logo tool, Wix Logo Maker remains competent and unusually cheap at the entry level — a one-time purchase rather than the subscription model most AI design tools have adopted. As an investment in a Wix-based brand workflow, you are now choosing between two parallel systems that do not sync, which is the kind of ecosystem friction that used to be Wix's strongest selling point.
What the product actually does
The flow is four steps. First, a questionnaire: business type, desired look and feel (you pick from style options), your logo text, and an optional tagline — with an AI text generator suggesting name and tagline lines if you are stuck, subject to a 50-character limit on each. Second, selection: Wix generates a set of logo options built from its template and icon library — one fact sheet counts around 50 concepts — and you can swap the icon for alternatives from the symbol list. Third, customization in the Logo Maker Editor: templates, four-color palettes you can adjust element by element, text editing, added symbols, basic shapes (circle, rectangle), image upload (JPEG/PNG up to 500 MB), and background color. Fourth, purchase: pick a plan and download.
The plan structure is where buyers get confused, so here it is flatly. Designing and previewing are free, including a 200×200 low-resolution JPG sample you can use on a Wix site. Everything usable is behind a Just Logo plan, and these are one-time purchases — non-refundable once terms are met, and they do not renew. Basic includes one logo design, full commercial usage rights, and 8 high-resolution PNG files (3000×3000) in color, grayscale, and monochrome. Advanced adds resizable SVG vector files, social-media-sized files for Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn and more, email signature and watermark assets, and app-store optimized versions. Brand Plus (rolling out gradually) adds the Brand Kit: unlimited post-download edits, unlimited social posts, covers, and printable business-card designs, plus access to the Wix media library. Separately, Logo and Online Presence bundles (Value, Social, Unlimited, Business) pair a logo with Wix website plans — the Light or Core site plans — and secondary logo designs require the Unlimited or Business tiers. On price, sources disagree: multiple trackers and Creative Bloq's review put Basic at $20 and Advanced at $50 one-time, while Review42 lists $49 and $99 — prices vary by promotion and region, so confirm at checkout; I quote the $20/$50 figures as the commonly reported ones and flag the conflict.
My testing notes
Two observations from running the flow for a test brand.
First, the generator is guided template matching rather than generative design, and that is both its strength and its ceiling. The questionnaire narrows the candidate set sensibly — style picks genuinely changed the look of the output — and the batch of concepts gave me several usable starting points within minutes. But the candidates are assembled from a shared library of icons, fonts, and layouts, and you can feel it: the outputs look like well-composed stock identity rather than something made for one business. Customization is real (colors per element, symbol swaps, shape additions, my own uploaded mark), and I was able to take a candidate to something I would not be embarrassed to use. The 50-character cap on name and tagline tripped me up once with a longer business name — a small limit that forced a layout rethink rather than a graceful autofit.
Second, the download gate is where the economics live, and it is honest but strict. I could design and preview everything for free and grab the 200×200 sample — fine for a staging site, useless for print or a social avatar. The jump to the paid plan gets you commercial rights and 3000×3000 PNGs, but the file matrix is the real decision: Basic is PNG-only with no vector, and downloads are effectively final — the anytime-edit workflow lives on Advanced and above. For a business that might print a sign or embroider a shirt, the SVG in Advanced is not optional, and at the reported $50 one-time it is still the cheapest print-ready vector I have bought in this category. The 14-day refund window (for un-downloaded purchases) gave me a safety margin while I compared candidates, which I appreciated.
What it does not do
Wix Logo Maker does not give you exclusivity. The elements come from a shared library, Wix states that paid logos include commercial usage rights but that elements are non-exclusive, and trademark availability is explicitly not guaranteed — if a registered mark matters to you, you need a trademark search and probably a lawyer, whatever the tool promises. It does not do generative image output: no text-to-image logo synthesis along the lines of modern AI design tools; the "AI" here is questionnaire matching plus an optional text generator for names and taglines. It does not fill a background with an uploaded image (Wix's editor notes this as a voted feature request). It is not available inside Wix Studio — Studio users must create the logo elsewhere and upload it as an image. It does not sync with Wixel: logos made in one system do not appear in the other, so the new-and-shiny path Wix recommends for new projects is a separate universe from your existing Brand Studio assets. Brand Plus must be assigned to the same website as the purchased logo to download all branded assets. And the plan landscape is fragmented — one-time Just Logo plans, yearly bundles with website plans, and Wixel's separate credit-based plans (reported at $90/year Basic and $290/year Pro with monthly AI credits) all coexist under one URL, which is more cognitive load than a logo purchase should require.
The competitive read
Against Looka and Canva, Wix Logo Maker's advantage is the one-time price and the Wix site integration: if your website lives on Wix, the logo flows into your dashboard and editor natively. Against Wixel, its own sibling, the classic tool now loses on AI capability and asset breadth by Wix's own admission, and wins only on the one-time purchase model versus credits. Against hiring a designer, it loses on originality and trademark safety, which is the honest trade every template logo maker makes. The category truth is unchanged: a $20–$50 template logo is a fine placeholder and a real business asset only if the mark is simple and you accept non-exclusivity.
Verdict
Wix Logo Maker remains one of the better cheap logo options precisely because it is honest about what it is: guided templates, real customization, commercial rights, and a one-time fee. Rated 3.5 on the rubric — functionality is solid within the template paradigm and the value at the reported $20/$50 one-time pricing is genuinely good, usability is strong apart from small limits like the 50-character text cap, and the Wix ecosystem gives it support depth few rivals match. It loses ground on two fronts: the product is now officially the legacy path behind Wixel with no sync between them, and non-exclusive elements with no trademark guarantee cap its ceiling for serious brand work. For a small business on Wix that needs a clean, print-capable mark this week, I would still buy Advanced and not think twice. For a brand you intend to trademark, budget for a designer instead.

Pros
- One-time pricing instead of a subscription: at the commonly reported $20 Basic and $50 Advanced, the SVG-inclusive Advanced plan is the cheapest print-ready vector purchase in the category
- Free full-design workflow with a 200×200 sample download means I could evaluate candidates on a real staging site before paying anything
- Editor customization is genuine — per-element color control, symbol swaps, shapes, and my own uploaded image took a template candidate to a mark I would use
- Advanced plan's file set is comprehensive: 3000×3000 PNGs in three colorways, SVG, social-sized crops, email signature, watermark, and app-store versions
- Native Wix integration: logos live in Brand Studio and drop straight into a Wix site's editor and Media Manager
Cons
- Wix now positions this as the legacy tool — its own help center directs new logo projects to Wixel and admits the classic maker has limited AI support, and the two systems do not sync
- Outputs are template-assembled, not generated: candidates share the same icon and layout library, and nothing is exclusive
- No trademark guarantee — Wix states elements are non-exclusive and trademark availability is not ensured, which rules it out for mark registration
- Plan matrix is fragmented (one-time Just Logo plans, website bundles, Wixel credits) and price reporting conflicts across sources ($20/$50 vs $49/$99), so verify at checkout
- Small editor limits add up: 50-character name/tagline caps, no image-filled backgrounds, no Wix Studio availability, and secondary logos gated to top plans
