Where Speaktor sits

Speaktor is a budget-oriented AI text-to-speech product: paste or upload text, pick a voice, get audio. It competes in one of the most crowded corners of the AI market, against ElevenLabs, Speechify, Murf, FreeTTS and a long tail of voice generators, and its answer to that competition is price and packaging rather than frontier voice quality. The pitch covers the familiar use cases — narrated articles, audiobook production, podcast segments, video voiceovers, accessibility for readers who would rather listen, learning support for language students — and the product backs that with multi-speaker scripts, subtitle exports, speed and pitch controls and, on the higher tiers, video dubbing with voice cloning. The homepage markets 200+ AI voices across 50+ languages, and the pricing page states output in 55+ languages. It also says 'Trusted by Millions Worldwide' with a Trustpilot widget attached; that is a vendor claim and I could not verify the number behind it.

What Speaktor actually does

The core loop is deliberately simple. You set voice options — language, male/female/neutral gender, and on paid plans an emotional style plus speed and pitch adjustments — paste or upload your text, generate, and download MP3 or WAV with SRT subtitles. Multi-speaker audio lets you assign different voices to different speakers inside one file, which is what turns a flat narration into something that sounds like a conversation or a cast reading. The language list is broad for the price: English, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, German, French and more.

Paid plans add two capabilities beyond narration. The first is the Pro voice tier: the vendor splits its catalogue into Lite voices and higher-quality Pro voices, and Pro voice generation consumes roughly five times the normal credit usage. The second is video dubbing with voice cloning, which consumes roughly ten times the normal credit usage — you clone a voice, then have Speaktor lay translated speech over video. There is also a Team tier with shared workspaces and centralized billing.

At time of writing, the pricing page (speaktor.com/pricing) shows three plans with a standing '50% off' promotion: Lite at $9.99 per month (shown as $4.99 with the discount), 1 seat and 90 minutes of conversion per month; Pro at $24.99 per month (shown as $12.49), 600 minutes per month, plus Pro voices and dubbing; and Team at $30 per seat per month (shown as $15), 3,000 minutes per seat per month. Annual billing is offered at $59.99 for Lite and $149.95 for Pro. A 90-minute free trial is advertised without a credit card. The comparison pages Speaktor publishes against named rivals are worth reading as positioning rather than neutral testing — a vendor's own shootout always favors the vendor — but they do confirm the shape of the offer: unlimited characters are not the billing unit, minutes of generated audio are, and everything downstream of that follows.

My testing notes

Method note: Speaktor is a web app with a free trial, and my evaluation here is grounded in the live pricing page, the product's own comparison material and the way the numbers hold up under arithmetic. Three observations.

First, the numbers on Speaktor's own pages do not agree, and the disagreements all run in the direction of the larger figure appearing in marketing contexts. The pricing page says Lite includes 90 minutes per month and Pro 600. The vendor's own comparison pages against Synthesia, Speechify, FreeTTS and SpeechGen claim 300 minutes for Lite and 2,400 minutes for Premium, plus a 36-minutes-per-year framing for Synthesia that I could not reconcile with anything on Synthesia's site. The homepage separately advertises 'free and unlimited' text-to-speech with no signup wall and no hidden caps, while the pricing page sells 90-minute monthly allowances and a 90-minute trial. When a vendor's free offer, its plan limits and its comparison tables each tell a different story, I anchor on the pricing page — the thing they will bill you against — and treat the rest as promotion.

Second, the credit multipliers quietly change the value math. The headline '600 minutes per month' on Pro is measured in base conversion. Best-quality Pro voices run at roughly five times credit usage, and video dubbing with voice cloning at roughly ten times. Do the arithmetic against the plan: 600 base minutes becomes about 120 minutes of Pro-voice audio, or about 60 minutes of dubbed cloned-voice video, per month. That is still inexpensive in absolute terms — at the promoted $12.49, a 120-minute audiobook's worth of top-tier voice is genuinely cheap — but a buyer who signs up expecting 600 minutes of the best voices will be disappointed within a week. The same multiplier logic applies to the Team tier's 3,000 minutes per seat.

Third, the perpetual '50% off' framing deserves the skepticism it gets everywhere in this category. The pricing page shows list prices struck through beside the discounted ones, and the vendor's comparison pages quote only the discounted numbers ($4.99, $12.49, $15). A permanent half-price promotion is a list price by another name; the honest monthly numbers to budget with are the struck-through ones — $9.99, $24.99, $30 per seat — and anything you actually pay below that is a bonus. The annual rates ($59.99 Lite, $149.95 Pro) are the real discounts and are the numbers I would plan around if the tool earns a place in your workflow.

What Speaktor does not do

It does not compete on voice fidelity with the top of the market; the tiered Lite/Pro voice structure is itself an admission that its default voices are not its best, and the best ones cost credits at five times the rate. There is no published API on the pricing page — I could not verify whether programmatic access exists at all, so if you need to generate speech from a pipeline, confirm that before subscribing. Voice cloning is not a standalone feature; it is bundled with video dubbing and priced in credits at ten times base usage, so you cannot buy it as a cheap add-on. There is no multitrack studio editing, no sound design layer and no music bed tooling of the kind audio-production suites offer — the output is narration files and subtitles. The claimed Trustpilot popularity and the 'trusted by millions' line are unverified vendor claims. And the free offer is a trial in practice: 90 minutes, not the unlimited free tier the homepage copy implies.

Verdict

Rated 3.4 on the ToolSpotter rubric: core functionality covers the text-to-speech basics well and adds multi-speaker, subtitles and dubbing, but the quality ceiling sits behind credit multipliers (40% weight), value is the strongest card at the promoted rates and still fair at list price (20%), usability is simple web-app territory with no learning curve (20%), the ecosystem is thin — no verified API, standard email support (10%), and the reliability signals take a hit for conflicting self-reported numbers and permanent-discount pricing (10%). My recommendation is specific: if you want cheap, decent narration in many languages — internal training material, narrated blog posts, audiobook drafts, learning content — Speaktor at the annual Pro rate is good value and I would take it over paying triple for quality you do not need. If voice quality is the product — client-facing ads, branded content, anything with your name on it — budget for a frontier voice tool instead and use Speaktor for drafts. Check the pricing page yourself on the day you buy; of all the products in this review batch, this is the one whose numbers moved around the most.
