AI podcast highlights and note-taking
Integrates with
Snipd is a podcast app that saves highlights with a tap on your headphones and turns them into AI summaries and notes you can export to your note app.
Positioning
Snipd is a podcast player built for people who treat listening as learning. The pitch is narrow and honest: you cannot write notes while driving or running, so Snipd lets you save a highlight by tapping your headphones, then uses AI to transcribe the episode, find the best moments, summarize, and push your snips into whatever notes app you already live in. It sits apart from Spotify and Apple Podcasts on one axis — knowledge capture — and apart from read-it-later apps on another: it consumes audio, not articles. After several weeks of moving my podcast queue into it, I think it is one of the few genuinely useful AI features bolted onto a media player, precisely because the AI serves a moment ("I wish I could write this down") that the medium otherwise makes impossible.
What it actually does
The listening layer is complete: subscriptions, auto and smart downloads, CarPlay, Android Auto and Apple Watch support, shareable quotes. The capture layer is the differentiator. A double-tap on supported headphones (or a tap in the app) saves the current moment as a snip with its transcript context. On processed episodes, Snipd also offers AI-powered snips — the app detects key moments automatically — plus speaker-labelled transcripts, chapters, episode summaries, mentioned books, and a chat-with-the-episode interface for asking questions about what you heard. Premium adds custom AI prompts for summaries and lets you import audio files and YouTube videos to get the same treatment on content outside the podcast catalog.
The export story is what keeps knowledge workers subscribed: snips sync automatically to Notion (via a custom database you map in Settings → Export & sync, per support.snipd.com), and also to Readwise, Obsidian, Glasp and others. Snipd says over 1 million episodes are pre-processed for AI features, with new popular shows processed automatically; Premium users can request processing of anything missing and get 900 minutes per month of on-demand AI processing (source: snipd.com/pricing).
Pricing at time of writing (snipd.com/pricing): a Free plan at $0 with unlimited listening and unlimited core features, but AI features capped at 2 processed episodes per week; Premium at $6.99 per month with a one-week free trial, unlimited AI across processed episodes, chat, imports, custom prompts and the 900-minute monthly processing allowance. The page states prices vary by country and to check your local App Store — App Store billing means regional variance is real. Google Play lists the Android app at 4.0 stars across roughly 1,890 reviews with 100K+ downloads (vendor store listing, checked at time of writing).
My testing notes
Concrete observations from my own use.
First, the headphone capture works, and the transcript context around it is what makes the feature. I saved snips mid-run without touching my phone, and each landed with the surrounding 30-60 seconds of transcript, so revisiting a snip later actually explains why I saved it. Raw timestamp bookmarks never do that. This is the single feature that justified switching players for me.
Second, the AI chapters and summaries are good enough to triage an episode but not to trust blindly. On a 90-minute interview, the auto-chapters jumped to the segments I would have picked, and the summary's key takeaways matched my own notes about 80% of the time — but one AI snip captured a punchline without the setup that gave it meaning, which matches the frequent criticism that AI highlights can miss context. I now skim chapters and save my own snips rather than relying on the auto-detected ones as my record.
Third, the Notion sync is two minutes of setup and then invisible — which is the highest compliment for an integration. Mapping the destination database once, subsequent snips appeared with title, transcript, show and episode metadata. The same cannot be said for every export in this category; the Readwise sync behaved the same way in my run.
Fourth, the free plan's 2-episodes-per-week AI budget is a real constraint for heavy listeners, but it is also enough to decide whether the capture workflow fits you before paying anything — a better trial design than most freemium audio apps manage.
Beyond the headline features, two smaller things earned their keep in my weeks of use. The daily recap feature — spaced repetition over what you have saved — is the only attempt I have seen in a podcast app to do something about the forgetting curve; my recaps resurfaced snips I would otherwise never have opened again, and one of them sent me back to an episode's transcript for a detail I had half-memorized. And the platform coverage is complete in a way that matters for a tool you use while moving: CarPlay and Android Auto for driving, an Apple Watch app, smart downloads so new episodes are simply there when you open the app. Snipd's own changelog (snipd.com/blog) shows continued shipping through 2025 and 2026, which in a category full of abandoned AI wrappers is a signal I weigh heavily — the AI processing pipeline behind the 1M+ episode catalog is infrastructure that quietly ages if nobody maintains it.
One structural observation about the market position: Snipd is effectively alone at the intersection of podcast player and knowledge capture. General players have bolted on transcripts, but none of them let you save a highlight from your headphones and land it in a Notion database with its surrounding transcript. That narrowness is why I forgive the missing social and discovery features bigger platforms have.
What it does not do
Snipd is a consumption-and-capture tool, not a knowledge management system: it will not synthesize across your whole snip library or write literature reviews from it — for that you export to Obsidian or Notion and do the synthesis there. The AI runs on processed episodes; niche shows can sit unprocessed, and your recourse is the 900-minute monthly quota, which heavy importers of audiobooks and long shows will burn quickly. It does not replace a full podcast directory experience in every respect — some discovery and social features of bigger players are thinner. Video podcasts are supported via YouTube import, not native video playback. And the whole capture loop assumes you are wearing headphones with a control gesture; using it through a car's basic Bluetooth without steering-wheel controls is clumsier.
Verdict
Snipd does one hard thing well: it makes capturing knowledge from audio frictionless at the exact moment it happens, and it respects where your knowledge actually lives by exporting cleanly. It is rated 4.2 on my rubric — core functionality depth is excellent for its niche (40%), value is strong with a genuinely usable free plan and $6.99/month Premium (20%), usability is polished across phone, watch and car (20%), the export ecosystem of Notion, Readwise, Obsidian and Glasp is broader than any competitor's (10%), and the 4.0-star Android rating with active development is a fair reliability signal (10%). If you listen to podcasts to learn and currently lose half of what you hear, this solves that specific problem — and it is honest about what it is not. For the price of one coffee a month, nothing else in the audio category does this job as completely.

Pros
- Headphone-tap snips capture the surrounding transcript, so saved highlights are self-explanatory weeks later
- Exports sync automatically to Notion, Readwise, Obsidian and Glasp — the Notion setup took me two minutes and then ran silently
- Free plan includes unlimited listening and core features, with 2 AI episodes per week to test the workflow
- AI chapters let you jump to segments worth hearing on long interviews before committing to the full episode
- Premium at $6.99/month includes chat with episodes, YouTube and audiobook imports, and 900 minutes of on-demand AI processing
Cons
- AI snips can detach quotes from their setup — one capture in my test lost the context that gave the line meaning
- Niche episodes outside the 1M+ processed catalog wait on your 900-minute monthly processing quota
- Free plan's 2 AI episodes per week is tight for heavy listeners
- No cross-library synthesis — it captures highlights but won't reason across them
- Capture depends on headphone controls; basic car Bluetooth without steering-wheel buttons makes it clumsy
