Where Pory sits

Pory is mid-pivot, and any review that describes it purely as an Airtable portal builder is writing about the old product. The Pory of 2026 is an AI portal builder on its own database: you describe who signs in and what each person needs, and it generates a branded portal — logins, forms, approvals, status tracking, per-person scoped views — with no Airtable in the picture at all. The company says so plainly in its own FAQ: "Does Pory still require Airtable? No. Pory now has its own database, so there's no second tool to sync or pay for." The previous product, Pory for Airtable, is not dead: it keeps running at airtable.pory.io with its existing customers and its old pricing. That split — a legacy product with a decade-shaped community and a new product with a new database, new pricing and an AI-first pitch — is the single most important thing to understand before evaluating Pory today.

The new positioning is narrow on purpose: portals for small teams that work with people outside them — accelerator programs, member organisations, service businesses, grant administrators. The pitch replaces "the spreadsheet, the shared drive and the email thread" for intake and status tracking. Pricing follows the same focus. At time of writing, pory.io/pricing lists a Free plan (one portal, up to five users, core templates, Pory badge), Pro at $59 per month or $49 per month billed annually (one portal, unlimited users, your domain and branding, AI builds and edits included), and Enterprise at $119 per month (unlimited portals, priority support, migration help). There is no per-seat pricing anywhere: a portal with 4,000 users costs the same as one with 40, and the AI that generates and edits portals is included in the plan under fair use rather than metered in credits. The site explicitly refuses the enterprise-sales ritual — "No 'Contact sales' tier. If you need SSO and a procurement portal, we'll happily point you at the enterprise tools built for that."

What it actually does

On the new product, you describe your portal in plain language and Pory generates it: application intake with stages and decisions, reviewer scoring with notes kept on the record, status pages so applicants stop emailing "when do I hear back?", directories, resource libraries, event calendars, file uploads attached to records, reminders by date, and passwordless sign-in where each person sees only what is theirs. Permissions are per-role and per-record, which is the hard part of every portal project and the part Pory has clearly invested in. The AI is used to build and edit the portal itself — generating pages, forms, workflows and record views — rather than bolted on as a chat widget.

The legacy product at airtable.pory.io is the Pory that most reviewers have written about, and it still does what it did: drag-and-drop blocks assembled into a portal, connected to as many Airtable tables and bases as you need, with view/create/edit/delete permissions per user group, magic links, password-protected pages, embeddable widgets, custom domains and sitemap generation. Its pricing is unchanged: Professional at $99 per month per portal (five collaborators, one custom domain, unlimited user accounts, custom branding) and Unlimited at $549 per month (unlimited portals, custom theming, Pory branding removed, account manager). Changes made in the portal write straight back to Airtable, which is why the product built a loyal following among Airtable-centric operations teams — and why the pricing stung when Softr entered at a fraction of it.

My testing notes

My first observation is from the new builder's workflow, which is where the pivot earns its keep. I described an application-and-review process — applicants submit, reviewers score, a program team decides — and the generated portal came back with intake forms, stages, per-applicant status pages and an assignment model where reviewers see only their own queue. That is not a template with the logo swapped; it is the correct data model for admissions work, generated in one pass. The passwordless magic-link login (no passwords to reset, nothing for users to install) removes the usual portal rollout objection from non-technical end users.

The second observation is about the legacy Airtable product, which I have used across several client setups: the sync behaviour is the strong part. Records created or edited through Pory land in Airtable in real time and vice versa, so operations teams keep their base as the system of record while external users get a clean interface. The five-collaborator cap on the $99 Professional plan and the jump to $549 for multiple portals is where the value proposition weakened — and where Softr and others undercut it. At time of writing, both price lists are live side by side, and I would not start a new project on the legacy product.

Third, the pricing philosophy is refreshingly consistent between old and new: flat per portal, unlimited users, and now no AI credits either. The company notes it has priced this way since 2020. For a portal whose value grows with adoption, per-user pricing punishes success; Pory's model does not. I checked the credit question specifically because "AI included" usually hides a meter — the pricing FAQ states the AI is part of the product under fair use, with no per-message or per-run charges.

Where it falls short

The new product is young. The site carries waitlist cues alongside its signup buttons, the feature surface (SSO, procurement workflows) is explicitly out of scope, and there is no long track record of the new database, permissions model or AI builder under production load. The testimonials on the homepage are from the Airtable-era product — useful signal about the team, not about the software you would deploy this quarter. Migration tooling from the legacy product is offered ("migration help from our team" on Enterprise) but the two products share a name, not a database, and the confusion is real: I have had to explain the difference to two people who thought Pory still required Airtable.

On the legacy side, the limits are known: deep dependence on Airtable's API and rate limits, constrained design flexibility compared with a real front-end framework, and pricing that starts at $99 per portal with no free tier (only a 7-day trial). Free-plan users on the new product get one portal and five users with a Pory badge — enough to try with real people, not enough to run anything. And if you need SAML SSO, audit logs or procurement-grade controls, the answer is a different tool, by the vendor's own admission.

Verdict

I like the honesty of the new direction — own database, flat pricing, AI in the plan, and a clear "not for you" to enterprise buyers — but I would be rating a promise more than a proven product if I scored only the pivot. Rated 3.4 on the rubric: depth of core functionality 3.5 (portal-specific data model with approvals, scoring and per-record permissions is genuinely good; general app-building breadth is deliberately narrow), value 3.8 (flat per-portal pricing with unlimited users and no AI credits is the fairest model in this category; legacy pricing at $99-549 per portal is steep), usability 3.6 (AI generation and passwordless login are quick; the new builder is still finding its edges), support and ecosystem 3.0 (small team, Airtable-era community, new product ecosystem barely formed), reliability signals 3.2 (awards and reviews belong to the legacy product; the new stack has little production history). If you run a program, membership or service business and want a portal live this month, Pory deserves a trial — just be clear with yourself about which Pory you are buying.

Sources

Pros

  • Flat per-portal pricing with unlimited users on every paid plan — a 4,000-user portal costs the same as a 40-user one (pory.io/pricing)
  • AI generation and editing are included in the plan under fair use, with no credits, tokens or per-run metering
  • Portal-native data model: application stages, reviewer scoring, per-record permissions and applicant status pages generated in one pass
  • Passwordless magic-link sign-in means end users need no training or account setup
  • The legacy Airtable product syncs both directions in real time and keeps the base as system of record

Cons

  • The 2026 product is young — the team's testimonials and awards all belong to the legacy Airtable product, not the new database stack
  • No SSO, audit logs or procurement controls; the vendor explicitly points enterprise buyers to other tools
  • Free plan is limited to one portal and five users with a Pory badge; paid plans start at $49/month billed annually
  • Two coexisting products (pory.io and airtable.pory.io) with different databases and pricing make evaluation confusing
  • Legacy Pory for Airtable starts at $99/month per portal with a 5-collaborator cap and jumps to $549/month for multiple portals

Best For

Small teams running programs, memberships or service businesses who want a branded portal with approvals and status tracking live quickly, at a flat price that does not grow with users.
