Brand Studio by Stability AI is a creative production platform that helps marketing and creative teams generate and edit on-brand images using custom models trained on their brand identity.
DreamStudio no longer exists as a product. Stability AI renamed and repositioned it: Brand Studio by Stability AI (brandstudio.com) launched on 8 April 2026 as the replacement, dreamstudio.ai now redirects to brandstudio.com, and Stability's own support material calls the product "Dream Studio, now named Brand Studio." If you are looking for the old consumer playground where you bought credit packs and ran Stable Diffusion in a browser, that product is gone — its pay-as-you-go credit packs are no longer sold. This review covers what replaced it, and my rating reflects a product that deliberately walked away from the consumer audience that knew it.
Where Brand Studio sits
Brand Studio is a creative production platform aimed at brand and marketing teams, not hobbyists. The pitch is that generic AI tools work for everyone and therefore not for your brand; Brand Studio instead builds your brand identity into the platform. The headline capabilities are Brand Central, a hub for brand guidelines and custom Brand ID models trained on your photography style and even specific product SKUs (built with Stability's Applied Research team or via a self-service tool on Enterprise); Producer Mode, which turns a prompt into a step-by-step production plan with each step re-generable; Precision Inpainting and Product Insertion for targeted edits that leave the rest of the image alone; and Curated Model Routing, which selects among Stability's own models and third-party providers — Stable Diffusion, Nano Banana, Seedream and others — per use case. Stability's FAQ is explicit that routed outputs may come from different providers, so do not assume every image is Stable Diffusion.
Plans and what they cost
Pricing at time of writing, from stability.ai/brand-studio-plans and the knowledge base: a free Trial with a one-time credit allotment (the KB says 500 credits; the plans page says up to the first 1,000 credits — confirm which applies when you sign up) that ends once the credits are consumed; Creator at $19/month with 2,000 credits per month; Core at $50/month with 6,000 credits per month per the knowledge base (the plans page says 5,000, another inconsistency worth confirming); and Enterprise at custom pricing with unlimited seats, custom credit bundles, Brand Central, Producer Mode, SSO, project-level access controls, and white-glove support. Monthly credits do not roll over on any plan, and additional credit bundles can be purchased. One seat is included on Trial, Creator, and Core. There is no free tier in the old sense — the trial is a metered evaluation.
A closer look at Producer Mode, since it is the feature Stability leads with for teams. The idea is that a brief becomes a numbered production plan — each step a generation or an edit referencing Brand Central's models and campaigns — and each step can be judged and regenerated on its own rather than re-rolling the whole output. For campaign work where an art director approves at each stage, that step-wise structure maps onto how creative production actually runs, and it is a smarter shape for collaboration than a chat transcript. The catch is access: Producer Mode and Brand Central are Enterprise-tier capabilities, so what a self-serve Creator or Core subscriber actually gets is the generation and precision-editing layer without the brand scaffolding. That distinction is the difference between the product's marketing and the product most readers of this page can buy.
My testing notes
The first thing I did was follow the old bookmark: dreamstudio.ai 301s to brandstudio.com, and after about ten minutes in the product it was clear the audience had changed. The editing tools are the most useful part of what I saw. Precision Inpainting does what the name says — I placed a product into a scene and swapped specific elements while the surrounding pixels stayed put, which is the workflow brand teams actually need and which generic inpainting handles badly. Second, the credit model punishes exploration: with 500 trial credits (per the KB) and no rollover on paid plans, you need a defined project, not an afternoon of prompting. I treated the trial like a shoot: fixed brief, fixed assets, and I still hit the end of the allotment mid-project. Third, the naming is a mess that will cost real people real time — DreamStudio (hosted) versus StableStudio (the open-source community fork) versus Brand Studio (current) versus Stable Assistant (the chat-style consumer app, itself sunset on 1 October 2026) means most guides you find online describe products that no longer exist.
There is also a continuity question that anyone signing a contract should ask Stability directly. Within roughly a year the company renamed its flagship app, sunset Stable Assistant (1 October 2026, with month-to-month subscribers refunded minus credits used), deprecated its hosted video API, and moved its consumer audience toward an enterprise sales motion. The direction is coherent — sell brand-consistent production to companies — but it means the product you buy today is not the product the same domain sold two years ago, and Enterprise features on the roadmap are the ones carrying the strategy. On the plus side, the underlying model work continues (Stable Diffusion releases, Stable Audio 3.0, the August 2026 funding round), so the technology underneath the platform is not the risk. The risk is that individual and small-team users are simply no longer the customer, and every plan decision — seat counts, credit expiries, gated brand tooling — reflects that.
Where it falls short
There is no consumer path anymore. No pay-as-you-go credits, no casual tier, and no video — Stability deprecated its hosted Stable Video Diffusion API in July 2025 and video models are self-host only, so Brand Studio makes stills. The brand features that justify the positioning (Brand ID models, Producer Mode, governance) sit at Enterprise pricing, which puts them out of reach of exactly the small teams DreamStudio once served. The published plan pages contradict each other on trial and Core credit amounts, and one reviewer notes stability.ai's own pricing link 404s — buying friction that does not inspire confidence. Credits expire monthly, refunds are generally not issued on cancellation, and model routing means output provenance varies per generation, which complicates brand compliance conversations unless you pin models through Enterprise controls.
For completeness, the governance layer is the part I would scrutinise hardest in a sales process: SSO and project-level access controls are Enterprise-only, and when outputs come from routed third-party models, your compliance story depends on which models were used for which asset. Ask for model pinning and provenance logging in writing before signing.
Verdict
Rated 3.2 — the precision editing and brand-customization ideas are real core functionality (40% of my rubric) but gated behind Enterprise, value (20%) is poor for anyone outside a brand team with budget, usability (20%) is competent but austere, the ecosystem (10%) is confusing after the product churn of 2026, and reliability signals (10%) are mixed: a well-funded company (a $76M Series B closed in August 2026) that has now sunset two products in a year. If you run creative production for a brand with an Enterprise budget and need on-brand output at scale, book a conversation. If you want the old DreamStudio — cheap Stable Diffusion in a browser — it is gone, and you are shopping for an alternative, not a downgrade.
