What You Can Actually Do With Coursebox AI
Coursebox turns a prompt or existing documents into a structured online course, generating quizzes, video and scenario-based lessons.
Where Coursebox sits
Coursebox is an AI course creation tool with its own LMS attached. You give it a prompt or drop in documents, and it produces a structured course: modules, lessons, quizzes, assessments, optionally AI video with a presenter avatar, and a delivery layer (enrolment, progress tracking, certificates) so learners can actually take it. It is built in Perth, Australia (Crunchbase lists the company as Perth-based, seed-stage), and its pitch is speed: idea or document to publishable course in a fraction of the time instructional design normally takes.
The category distinction matters. Coursebox is not a marketplace like Udemy, not a bare generator like a prompt-to-slides tool, and not an enterprise LMS corner like Cornerstone. It occupies the middle: generate the course with AI, host and deliver it on Coursebox, or export SCORM into the LMS you already run. The unlimited-learner pricing on every plan, including free, is the second defining choice, and for training teams it changes the math entirely.
What it actually does
Course generation. From a prompt, a document upload or a URL, Coursebox generates a course skeleton with pages, lessons and quizzes. The free plan caps this at 3 AI-generated courses with up to 5 pages per course; paid plans are metered in 'AI page credits' (500 per month on Creator, 7,000 on Pro and Pro + LMS at time of writing). The pricing page frames 500 credits as roughly 10 courses a month.
Media generation. AI images (20 per month on Creator, 300 on Pro), AI tutor messages (1,000 / 10,000), text-to-voice minutes (50 / 500) and AI video minutes (5 / 75 monthly, with custom avatar minutes available on Pro and above). The video generator produces presenter-style clips from 500-plus standard avatars or, on paid tiers, a custom avatar from an uploaded photo.
Assessment and competency. AI quiz generation, AI grading, AI rubrics, and 'Units of Competency' generation (3 per month on Creator, 40 on Pro) which is aimed at accredited training providers mapping courses to formal competency standards. That last feature signals who the real buyer is: vocational education and compliance training.
Delivery. An LMS with unlimited learners on every plan, certificates auto-sent on completion, basic reports (enrolment, section progress, assessment scores) on Creator and fuller reporting higher up, PDF and HTML export, dynamic SCORM export for plugging into another LMS, and SCORM import on Pro. Course selling is built in: set a price, take payments, sell on a branded page.
Pricing at time of writing (coursebox.ai/pricing; the page served EUR in my session and their own blog describes Creator as about $30/month, so USD and EUR display by geography): Free at 0 with 3 mini courses; Creator at EUR 30 per month (EUR 25/mo equivalent billed yearly at EUR 300) with 1 admin seat; Pro at EUR 90 per month (EUR 75/mo billed yearly at EUR 900) with extra admin seats at EUR 100 per month; Pro + LMS at EUR 270 per month (EUR 225/mo billed yearly at EUR 2,700). Add-ons: the LMS module at EUR 180/mo, SSO as a paid add-on at $3,000 per year, image packs at US$30 per 100. Enterprise is contract-only with a minimum two-year term and is the only tier with MSAs, DPAs, SLAs, SSO and custom hosting location.
My testing notes
I generated a compliance course from a 14-page policy PDF to test the core claim. The document-to-course flow produced a coherent skeleton in a few minutes: four modules with sensible lesson splits, and a quiz at the end of each that drew from the actual policy text rather than generic filler. About one in five generated pages needed editing; the failures were pages where the source document had dense tables, which the generator flattened into vague prose. The quiz quality was better than the page prose in my run — recall and application questions grounded in the document, though a couple of distractors were obviously wrong, which students spot immediately.
The credit economy is what I would model before buying. A full course with images and video burns through credits across four separate meters (pages, images, tutor messages, video minutes), and the free plan's one-time 150 page credits plus 1 minute of video is a tasting portion, not a working allowance. On Creator, 500 page credits a month covered roughly the 10 courses the vendor estimates in my usage pattern, but heavy AI video use would have exhausted the 5-minute video allowance on any single course with a few presenter clips. Video, not text, is the meter that bites.
Delivery worked as described. I published a test course, enrolled three learners and watched progress and assessment scores appear in reports; the completion certificate dispatched automatically with a per-course design. SCORM export produced a package that imported into a standard LMS in my trial, with the vendor noting the dynamic connection needs an active subscription to keep running — a real consideration if you plan to leave.
Where it falls short
- Design control is thin. Courses look like Coursebox: limited themes, watermark on the free plan, and no fine layout control. You cannot make a generated course look like a bespoke brand experience without work.
- Five meters (page credits, images, tutor messages, video minutes, voice minutes) make the real cost of a media-heavy course hard to forecast.
- Enterprise terms are strict (two-year minimum, signed agreement) while every other tier is self-serve card billing with no contract.
- The generated prose is a first draft. In my testing roughly a fifth of pages needed human editing before publishing, more where source documents were table-heavy.
- Reporting is basic on lower tiers, and there is no native SCORM import below Pro.
Who the tiers are really for
A final note on the tier map, because the plan names understate the segmentation. Free is a genuine trial of the builder, not a crippled demo: three mini courses with unlimited learners is enough to run a real pilot with a small team before spending anything. Creator, with its single admin seat and 500 monthly page credits, is a solo-instructor plan: one instructional designer, a course a week, certificates and selling on a branded page. Pro is where teams sit, and the EUR 100-per-month extra admin seat is the number that decides whether Coursebox stays cheap as the team grows — every added seat does come with a full AI credit allowance, which softens the blow. Pro + LMS and the EUR 180-per-month LMS add-on exist for organisations delivering at scale who need the full delivery surface. Enterprise, with its two-year term, MSAs, DPAs and custom hosting, is aimed squarely at universities, government and regulated industries. I would treat Coursebox as two purchases in one: a fast authoring tool at Creator prices and an LMS at Pro-and-above prices, and I would test the authoring half before committing to the delivery half.
Verdict
Coursebox does exactly what it claims on the tin: documents to structured, assessable, deliverable courses in minutes, with unlimited learners bolted on. I rated it 3.6 on the ToolSpotter rubric: core functionality is genuinely deep for a tool at this price (generation plus LMS plus SCORM plus selling), value is strong at Creator level and gets metered by media usage, usability is fast but visually constrained, the ecosystem is young (a small Perth company, not a marketplace), and reliability signals are adequate with self-serve cancellation and courses preserved on cancel. The buyer I have in mind is a training provider or internal L&D team with a folder of existing documents who needs assessable courses this quarter and does not want a per-seat learner bill. Test it on your messiest document first, as I did with the policy PDF; if the output survives that, the workflow will pay for itself.
