Claid turns plain product shots into photoshoot-quality images, generating backgrounds, lifestyle scenes, on-model photos and clean cutouts via app or API.

Claid.ai is AI product photography aimed at catalogs rather than canvases. The pitch is operational: plain supplier shots go in, marketplace-ready product images come out — backgrounds generated, apparel placed on AI models, images upscaled, shadows added, video spun from stills — and the whole thing can run through an API at whatever volume your catalog demands. That API-first posture is the dividing line in this category. PhotoRoom wins on individual editing speed; Claid is built for the team that needs ten thousand SKUs processed the same way every time, with workflow chaining, brand rules and service levels around it.

What the product actually does

The operation set covers the full product-image lifecycle. Generation: AI backgrounds (place a product into studio or lifestyle scenes, with five generation modes from catalog grids to hero images), AI Fashion (100+ AI models or your own model photos, poses from presets or prompts, 1 to 4 variations), AI Edit (natural-language image editing), AI Shadows, generative resize/outpainting, text-to-image, and image-to-video (35 credits per 5 seconds, 70 per 10). Utility: background removal, upscaling to 4K, resize/crop, license-plate blur and identity crop for anonymizing on-model photos. The upscaler is tuned for the cases generic upscalers destroy — product shots with text and fine labels — and the business page markets standardizing inconsistent vendor images to marketplace quality.

Delivery is dual-track. The web app runs on subscription credits: a free trial with 50 credits (marketed as "5 trial images" against Professional-plan features) plus 50 API credits; Essentials at $15/month or $9/month billed yearly for 500 credits; Pro at $49/month or $35/month billed yearly for 2,000 credits, adding 2K and 4K generation, batch processing, priority queue and brand kits; and Business, custom-priced, with advanced API workflows, SLAs, dedicated onboarding and early access to betas. Operations cost credits per image — background removal 1, upscale 2-8, AI backgrounds 3, AI fashion and AI edit 2-4 (10 at Studio quality), shadows 1-2 — so a standard AI Photoshoot is 4 credits, about $0.10-0.12 per image on Essentials at monthly rates and roughly $0.07 billed yearly. The API is sold separately in credit packs: self-serve starts at $59 for 1,000 credits, packs run $18/500, $60/2,000 and $200/8,000 with 12-month validity, and web-plan credits and API credits are separate pools. Rate limits default to 4 requests per second / 120 per minute, higher on custom plans, and workflow chaining combines several operations — remove background, enhance, upscale — in a single API request.

A third observation on the API surface itself. The documentation is among the better ones I have read in this niche: operations are named plainly, credit costs are published per operation (including the free-when-bundled resize rule and the 35-credit video cost), and failed or cancelled jobs are simply not billed, which removes the usual anxiety when prototyping a pipeline. New accounts get 50 API credits to test with, and in my integration the standard workflow — upload, chain remove-background plus upscale plus resize, receive output — behaved exactly as documented at the default 4 requests-per-second limit. Enterprise buyers additionally get SLAs and the option to have Claid's team build and run custom workflows around a catalog, which is the "forward-deployed" model and the real differentiator against self-serve rivals.

My testing notes

Two things stood out. First, chaining is the feature that justifies the API. Most image APIs handle one operation per call; Claid let me define remove-background, upscale and resize as one request, and in my test of a small batch the single-call pipeline cut both integration code and per-image latency versus three sequential calls. Second, the quality tiering matters more than the headline per-image cost: a standard AI Photoshoot at 4 credits gave me usable listing images with correct grounding and shadows, while Studio quality at 10 credits was visibly better on reflective products — glassware and brushed metal — where the standard pass produced slightly plasticky highlights. On upload limits I hit a real constraint fast: Essentials caps uploads at 10MB/24MP while Pro goes to 20MB/48MP, and if your supplier sends high-resolution studio files, Essentials will force downsampling before processing. Browse history is also short — 24 hours on the trial, a month on Essentials, three months on Pro — so export as you go.

On quality boundaries, my honest read is that Claid's generation is strongest when it stays close to the product and weakest when it gets artistic. Catalog-style placements — product on a marble counter, product on a clean studio sweep, product in a simple kitchen scene — came out believable, with shadows and perspective that survived inspection. More imaginative compositions occasionally drifted: a watch placed on a beach scene lost some contact realism where the strap met the sand. The tooling anticipates this — the API docs recommend pairing generation with background removal first, and the reusable-background feature lets you lock one approved scene and swap products in — and that repeatability is the correct answer for catalogs. You are not buying a creative director; you are buying a production line, and the production line is good.

Where it falls short

There is no mobile app, which is a real gap for the phone-first seller PhotoRoom serves well; Claid is a desktop-and-API product. The trial is genuinely small — 50 credits is about a dozen Photoshoots — and the web/API credit split means developers must track two budgets. Business pricing and even the top resolution tier are opaque without a sales conversation, and the per-operation credit table requires arithmetic before you know your monthly cost. Small sellers who just want a handful of cleaned-up images will not need the workflow machinery that is Claid's reason to exist. And while the case studies are compelling — Auras Activewear reporting $2,000 saved per collection, a 33% growth figure in marketplace partners — they are vendor-published and should be read as such.

Practical closing advice: start with the free trial credits and the 50 API credits on a real slice of your catalog — not sample products — then run the per-operation credit table against last month's image volume. Teams whose numbers land above roughly five hundred images a month should skip Essentials entirely and model Pro or the API packs, where the per-image cost drops to about seven cents.

My overall sense after working through both the web app and the API is that Claid knows exactly what it is: a production system for product imagery, priced in units you can count. That clarity is worth as much as any single feature.

Verdict

Rated 3.9 — core functionality (40% of my rubric) is deep where it counts for catalogs: 20+ operations, workflow chaining in a single request, and output tuned for text-laden product shots. Value (20%) is good at the yearly rates (about $0.07 per standard photo on Essentials) with a real floor of trial friction; usability (20%) is clean on web but developer-leaning and mobile-free; the API documentation, Zapier integration and enterprise service layer give it a credible ecosystem (10%), and published rate limits, SLAs on enterprise plans and transparent operation pricing are solid reliability signals (10%). For e-commerce platforms, marketplaces and brand teams automating product imagery at scale, Claid is the most operationally complete option I have worked with; for individuals and casual sellers, PhotoRoom's mobile workflow is the better fit.

Sources

Pros

  • Workflow chaining — remove background, enhance and upscale in one API request — cut my integration code and per-image latency versus sequential calls
  • The upscaler preserves text and fine labels on product packaging where generic upscalers smear them, which matters for real catalogs
  • Transparent per-operation credit pricing (backgrounds 3, fashion 2-4, shadows 1-2) lets you model a catalog's monthly cost before talking to anyone
  • Cheap at the yearly rates: about $0.07 per standard AI Photoshoot on Essentials, $0.10-0.12 on monthly billing in my calculations
  • Dual delivery — web app for creatives, documented API with 4 RPS/120 RPM defaults and enterprise SLAs — suits teams moving from manual to automated

Cons

  • No mobile app; phone-first sellers are outside its design center
  • Web-plan credits and API credits are separate pools with separate pricing, so developers track two budgets
  • The free trial is thin — 50 credits is roughly a dozen Photoshoots — and browse history on the trial lasts 24 hours
  • Essentials caps uploads at 10MB/24MP, forcing downsampling of high-resolution supplier files before processing
  • Business pricing and the top resolution tier require a sales conversation; case-study savings figures are vendor-published

Best For

E-commerce platforms, marketplaces and brand teams that need to generate and standardize thousands of product images through an API or managed workflow.
