Textero AI Essay Writer
Pros
- + Citations resolved to real scholarship in my checks and matched the reference list — the fabricated-bibliography failure did not appear in my runs
- + Source selection is a real control feature: you pick which uploaded or found references ground the draft, unlike generic chatbots
- + Revision commands (rewrite, paraphrase, extend, shorten) were more useful to me than the initial generation and are fast for tightening drafts
- + Published credit exchange rate (1 credit ≈ 1 page) makes the free tier and overage cost modelable before you pay
- + Subscription freeze (1 month on quarterly, 3 months on yearly) is student-shaped value I haven't seen elsewhere; yearly works out to $8.25/month
Cons
- - Ships an 'AI detection remover' alongside its detector and has marketed 'undetectable AI essay writing' — the product design nudges toward academic-integrity violations
- - Output is generic-formal: structured and competent, but stiff and over-transitioned without substantial editing to your own voice
- - Free tier (5 credits/day) is exhausted within an afternoon of testing different tools
- - Pricing details conflict across directories (a 550-word/day cap and a $16.99 Pro tier appear in one tracker but not on the vendor site)
- - No API, no team or institutional plan, and the 215M-paper database is a vendor claim I could not independently verify
Brainscape AI Flashcards
Pros
- + Confidence-Based Repetition is perceptibly better tuned than binary spaced repetition — in my two-week block, interval behaviour tracked my actual recall
- + AI deck generation turns dense notes into a clean 20-card deck in under a minute in my test; free tier includes hundreds of AI-generated cards
- + Genuinely free self-study: unlimited manual creation and studying of your own cards forever, no ads
- + Certified expert-curated decks are noticeably cleaner and better organised than user decks in my comparison on exam subjects
- + Web Pro at $7.99/month (annual billing) is fair for the depth of engine and library on offer
Cons
- - Text-to-speech, promised for 2025, had still not shipped as of December 2025 App Store reviews — a real gap for language learners
- - iOS in-app Pro costs $19.99/month versus $7.99/month on the web for the same product; subscribing through Apple is a bad deal
- - Studying Certified and other users' public decks is Pro-only, so 'free forever' does not cover the library
- - No PDF/PowerPoint course import and no images or audio on free-tier cards
- - Certified coverage is uneven outside popular subjects; niche topics leave you with variable-quality user decks
