Tavus
Pros
- + Real-time face-to-face conversation over WebRTC with call-like turn-taking, not chatbot latency
- + Replica training from a one-minute video is short, and consent capture is built into the flow
- + Production plumbing is real: recordings, transcripts, Meet/Zoom configurations, concurrency controls, 100+ stock replicas
- + Memories layer lets conversations build on prior context with the same person
- + Clear ladder from a free tier to enterprise volume, with published per-minute overage rates
Cons
- - Per-minute billing with a 30-second minimum and 6-second rounding makes short test calls cost real money
- - Entry tiers cap conversations at 5-10 minutes and 3 concurrent sessions, which constrains production use
- - Rendering still shows tells around fast motion, blinks, and micro-expressions on close inspection
- - The pricing page serves multiple overlapping ladders and third-party listings contradict each other
- - Real-time face-and-voice synthesis carries impersonation risk that every deployment must manage with disclosure and monitoring
Opus Clip
Pros
- + Clip selection is the best I have tested in this category — roughly 70% of clips from a clean 45-minute podcast were publishable with at most a trim
- + Virality score works as a triage filter: sorting by it cut my review time on a 20-clip batch from about an hour to 15 minutes
- + Real free tier — 60 credits a month, no card, enough to fully judge clip quality on your own footage
- + Pro exports to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve and exposes an editing API and MCP connector, so output can continue in a professional pipeline
- + Caption accuracy around 95% on clean single-speaker audio in my testing, with emoji and keyword styling that reads natively on Shorts and TikTok
Cons
- - Credits meter source footage, not finished output — a 90-minute messy recording costs the same as a tight 30-minute one
- - Virality score is a proprietary heuristic (~0.41 correlation with real views in independent testing) and undervalues quieter, nuanced segments
- - Auto-reframe loses track of speakers on multi-person and screen-share content in my testing
- - Trustpilot shows a ~20% one-star tail with recurring billing complaints: charges after cancellation, expiring credits, slow refunds
- - Free plan caps exports at 3 days with caption watermark and one hour-long video consumes the entire monthly allowance
